Enrichment

Throughout their life at Pool Academy, students are offered a wide range of extra-curricular, enrichment and personal development opportunities. These are delivered through subjects, our rich inspiration programme, drop down days, assemblies, and the day-to-day life of school. They include a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities, trips and visits, special events and opportunities offered through our rich spiritual, moral social and cultural curriculum.

As a Cornish school, we embrace the opportunities and challenges presented by our county. We promote wide participation in county sporting, artistic and performance events, as well as providing a range of opportunities for our students to broaden their horizons.

At Pool Academy, we offer a rich variety of extra-curricular activities through our Inspiration Programme.

Charity and Community

Ukraine Appeal

Students from Pool Academy raised nearly £700 to help the humanitarian aid effort in Ukraine.  Students and staff held a non-uniform day - with a blue and yellow theme - and ran all kinds of activities to raise money for the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.

Poppy Appeal

Each year, the Pool Academy community raises money for the Poppy Appeal.  Previously, to mark Remembrance Day, the school held a two-minute silence and a film was shown with images and facts about remembrance.  A service was held at Trevenson Church, organised by the Combined Cadet Force and a hand-stitched blanket was displayed in the school’s main entrance along with silhouette soldiers.  Students also made poppies out of plastic bottles which were proudly displayed in the main car park.

Food Bank

Students, staff and the local community regularly support the Camborne, Pool, Redruth Food Bank by collecting donations.  Posters are displayed around the school to encourage everyone to get involved.  Students are particularly keen to support the Food Bank at Christmas and took part in the 'Twelve Items of Christmas Foodbank Challenge'.

The DofE team are experienced, enthusiastic and have completed the DofE themselves which means they have practical tips and ideas to help you succeed in this life changing - career enhancing adventure.

Please visit Mrs Cotterell or contact the team on dcotterell@poolacademy.uk.  Wherever you see the DofE poster you will find a member of staff willing to be an assessor for your chosen skill, physical or volunteering.

Sport

We know the value sport adds to every student’s education and offer a wide and varied programme of sporting activity designed to stretch and challenge even the most able.

It all starts from the moment students join us in Year 7 with hockey, netball, football and rugby amongst the most popular sports.  As students progress through the school, the opportunities continue to grow and grow with options ranging from mountain biking, climbing and athletics to gym fitness and archery.

We have our own brand new all-weather astro pitch and sports fields, as well as a sports hall, tennis hard courts, a dance studio, netball courts and fitness suite.

We have more than our fair share of sporting stars and our girls' football team regularly make it to the regional and national finals, as well as students earning individual places in the South West and, indeed, UK squads.

Alongside our sporting success, we recognise the value of sport as part of a student’s well being and that is why our offering is broad, inclusive and popular.

Student Leadership

The Student Leadership Team serve as the students' representative body.  It initiates and directs student activities, helps share students' ideas, interests and concerns.

Trips

We offer a wide range of trips throughout the year, giving all our students the opportunity to broaden their horizons and try new experiences. Examples of trips include the ‘Millionaire Reading Club’, regular theatre trips, our annual Valencia trip and the history trip to Berlin.

As an academy we believe that all our students deserve the opportunity to go to University if they wish and as such, we arrange for all year groups to visit a university every year. The first two year groups will be year 7 who are visiting Falmouth University and year 11 who are going to Exeter University.
